HOST: Not necessarily as a builder, but as a somewhat lazy homeowner, I love this product. Tell us about Husqvarna lawnmower -- automower, I should say.
REP: That's right. It's the Automower from Husqvarna. It's actually a robotic lawnmower that you can put on your lawn, up to three-quarters of an acre, and it will handle it easily. We're basically selling the always-mowed lawn. We're selling time. You never have to get out there and take care of that lawn again.
HOST: Is this gas, electric?
REP: It's a battery-powered unit, and actually what it would do is it goes out for forty-five minutes or ninety minutes--depending on the model that you get. (HOST: Uh-huh.) And when the battery's rundown, it finds its charging station on its own, (HOST: Okay.) charges itself back up -- (HOST: Ah, it did -- It goes home.) -- goes back out again. Yeah. It's really hands-off. You don't have to do anything to it. It takes care of the lawn for you, completely.
HOST: Just one -- another issue -- safety-wise, we're looking at a safe unit? (REP: Of course. Yeah.) Okay.
REP: Husqvarna one of the leaders in the industry for outdoor power equipment for safety, and innovation and ergonomics, things like that. So safety was a big concern of ours, too.
HOST: And I, by the way, own a lot of Husqvarna Tools. (REP: Awesome. Great.) I love 'em. They're absolutely fantastic. So --
REP: So the same, you know, method that we put into our other products goes into this, as well. (HOST: Right.) So if a child or anyone were to lift this unit up, the blades would automatically shut off. (HOST: Automatically stop. Okay.) Right. If they were to you know, climb up on a foot or anything, again, if the wheels come off the ground, this thing will shut down; the blades will not turn. (HOST: Okay. Let's kind of lift this up and give it an underbelly.) So you won't get the issue. Alright.
HOST: Everything looks nice and sealed up. (REP: Right.) Just have a small cutting unit.
REP: It is. Look at it. It's very, very small. So again, the blades are far away from the area where your hand could come in. And basically, it works on centrifugal force. When it spins, the blades come out. And all they're really doing is cutting the tips of the grass off as the grass grows. It's not having to plow through the grass like you do with your regular lawnmower.
[NONINTERVIEW DIALOGUE AND FOOTAGE]
REP: So what you see here, is you see that the disc -- But inside this disc are these razorblades actually. (HOST: Uh-huh.) So, as it spins around, you get a centrifugal force brings the blades out, and then you don't need a real powerful blade because you're not plowing through the grass. All you're doing is just taking the tips -- (HOST: You're constantly cutting.) You're constantly cutting, maintaining the lawn. It's kind of like having a barber always clipping your hair. As it grows, your hair always looks the same, and it never gets long, same with the lawn.
HOST: But don't use this on your hair.
REP: Don't use it on your hair. [LAUGHS] Yeah.
HOST: On terrain, is it uh -- ?
REP: Up to thirty-five degrees. Oops.
HOST: Oops. But not on tabletops. (REP: [LAUGHS]) Great. And what do we have here? It's got a -- an automatic stop button.
REP: There's a control panel back here so when you push this button, it opens up, and then what you get is when it opens up, you get your full control panel that you see here. So it's basically as easy as programming a cellphone. Very, very easy though, and many advanced options, as well on the unit to get it into tight areas or to go into different areas, different places. So all your controls are right on top of the nice display screen.
HOST: That is really nice. Now, typically, if I'm building a home and I'd like to recommend these to somebody, is there anything I need to do upfront to accommodate this or are most people just putting the docking stations out next to their porches?
REP: Yeah, there's certainly some installation that goes into play. We actually ask that our dealers who have been trained and certified on the unit come out to your lawn and actually put the wires down, the boundary wires that keep it in, put the station in. They'll consult on any of the rocks and things that the mower might, you know, not like, you know, get stuck on. (HOST: Oh, yeah.) So, there are some upfronts, you know, one day worth of installation, getting the lawn ready. But after that, it's hands off.
HOST: But one day as opposed to having to mow all the time.
REP: It took one day to install everything in my lawn and get it just right. And after that, I was hands off. I was done. This mows the lawn for me.
HOST: I love it. And I'll be taking this one home. (REP: Okay. [LAUGHS] Great to have you here.
REP: Thank you very much. It was a pleasure. [END]
