Transcript: Foundation Door Products, Featured at the 2008 International Builders' Show

Watch the Video on High End Doors (Foundation Door)

HOST: Tell me a little bit about Foundation Door and some of their products.

REP: Sure. Our product is pretty simple. It is a two-and-a-quarter-inch solid mahogany door, made in Nicaragua. It is an entrance door. We also make interior doors. But we -- we call it the best door made because it is one of the biggest doors made. We feature six-eight doors, which is a normal size. We feature eight-foot doors.

HOST: Very popular these days, the taller doors.

REP: Absolutely. This door is definitely more of a high-end, for a high-end home. The unique feature about our doors, besides the fact that it is Miami-Dade-certified and hurricane-proof, (HOST: Wow. Uh-huh.) which is important to a lot of the people along the hurricane coast.

HOST: So you're building big, solid doors.

REP: This is -- That's a good way to describe it. This is a big, solid door. It comes in about ten different colors of stain. It is a solid mahogany door. It's not a veneer door. (HOST: Okay. Great.) But the most-unique feature about our door is what we call interchangeability. That you can change the appearance of the front door (HOST: Right.), you can change the appearance of the inside of the front door by simply removing a panel.

The homeowner, this is something that the homeowner can actually do themselves. We've got about fifty stock designs in the panels. We have custom panels that are available, and it's simply removing sixteen pins that are in the door, lifting the panel out to change the whole appearance of the door. It is a very unique concept. We do have it trademarked, and we think it's going to allow people to express themselves in terms of their home.

We call them Expressing Entryway Systems. We call our artwork Centerpiece Art (HOST: Okay.) which is developed by our marketing department. And some of the panels are just absolutely gorgeous. For instance, yesterday was Valentine's Day, so here at the show, we were featuring a Valentine's Day panel in our door which you could put either on the inside or the outside of the door.

HOST: I love the flexibility of that. And the other thing I like about it, too, if you build a concrete home and you're on the coast, and you build it, you've got to have a strong door. (REP: Absolutely.) I mean if the door is -- if you put a flimsy door on one of those homes, it's not gonna do you any good.

REP: Yeah. This combines strength with beauty. The beauty of the royal mahogany, which is the finest mahogany made -- (HOST: It's a beautiful wood.) Absolutely -- And the ability to make it just about any stain color that you want, along with the strength of a two-and-a-quarter-inch door, Miami- Dade-certified. (HOST: Right.) We also feature on our doors...We feature the most heavy-duty hardware, most-beautiful hardware in the world. It's called Rocky Mountain hardware.

HOST: And your hard -- And your doors come with hardware or you get some selections on that also?

REP: Our doors come complete. They come complete with the Rocky Mountain hardware which you can pick your style and your patina colors on that. (HOST: Right.) And it comes completely installed. It also has a five-point, German-locking system, stainless-steel locking system for security. (HOST: Wow.) It comes inside the jam. It comes with the threshold. The only thing you need to put this door up in your home -- (HOST: Is a rough opening? [LAUGHS]) -- is a rough opening and two burly guys to handle it. Right.

HOST: [LAUGHS] And that, they are heavy. Now you said you do interior doors also.

REP: We do interior doors also. And our interior doors are one-and-three-quarter-inch thick, which again, is well and above the industry standard (HOST: Right.) for interior doors.

HOST: And ya'll do all solid-core doors for your interior?

REP: Yes, it's the same door. It's just an inch-and-three-quarters. It is royal mahogany. (HOST: Wow.) It's mahogany all the way through.

HOST: So you can carry that theme of your front door all the way through your house with your interior.

REP: Absolutely. Every door that we make -- We say every door we make is the best door made, which is our motto, but it's also the same door. So if you come to our booth and you look at our door, every door is exactly the same in as far as the fact that it has double-panel, hurricane glass in it. (HOST: Right.) But you have the ability to change the appearance of the door. We have handcarved panels, as well. We have a factory in Nicaragua that we just put up. And we have some artists, some artisans in Nicaragua who actually do handcarved work on our doors. (HOST: Right.) And we have a couple of those on display at our booth, too.

HOST: That's great. I need to get back over to your booth. I need to look at those doors a little closer.

REP: Yeah, we'd be glad to have you.

HOST: Thank you.

REP: I appreciate your taking the time and interest in our product.

HOST: Thank you.

REP: Thanks again. [END]
